Picking your countertop

Whether you are replacing an existing countertop, renovating a kitchen or bathroom, or building a new house, here are a few simple steps to follow that can help make this a smooth process.

A.  Initial design and measurement. In order to provide you with a price estimate for your countertop, Dave’s Granite will need to know the following:

The measurements of your countertop

Any edge treatments or inlays you may want;

The colors of interest to you

Any additional items you may want to include such as an integrated sink or backsplash.

B. Templating visit:   The next step in the purchase process is the   "templating visit".  A certified technician will visit your home in order to finalize measurements and discuss the position of sinks, cabinets, and any seams. Keep in mind that stoves, sinks, and cabinets must be in place before this visit.
C. Installation process:  Installing your stone or solid surface can usually be done in a day or so—and you can help speed the process by making your home ready for the new arrival. The day before installation, a Dave’s Granite Certified Professional will call you to confirm time of arrival.
D. At Arrival: For areas directly affected by the installation, cover the entryways and vents to contain dust and debris. Create a clear path through your home for easy access to the installation area and for removal of debris. Cover furniture and floors along this path, and in areas adjacent to the installation. Don't forget to remove all items from the cabinets.  Move all breakables, such as lamps, vases, mirrors, wall hangings, antiques or other valuables, from areas affected by installation work.
E. Our professionals will install the countertop. If countertop seams are required, the installer will help you decide where to place them for the best appearance. (Stone countertops have visible seams. Acrylic countertops have inconspicuous seams.) Once the countertops are installed, our professionals will do the following: the immediate area will be left clean.

Sinks and Faucets...

You may choose your sink from any source that you like.  For your convenience,
Dave’s carries several models of undermount and integrated sinks.
Sink Types for Stone Countertops:

                                 Undermount Sinks:

                                         The most commonly used sinks with stone countertops. Undermount sinks give a nice clean look to
                                         the countertops and make the countertops easier to maintain.  When cleaning the countertops, you
                                         have the ability to just wipe debris into the sink without dealing with a raised "lip" around the sink.

                                         Certain brands of undermount sinks have the option of having a “reveal.”  A reveal will show the inside lip of the sink underneath the countertop.  A no reveal will cut the countertop flush with the inside of the sink.

Drop - In Sinks:

Are the most economical option.  A “lip” is created around the top of the counter.  A drop-in sink is easier to replace than the undermount.  However, for sanitation reasons, these sinks are more often used in bathrooms than in kitchens.

Apron ( or Farm ) Sinks:

Apron sinks were common in farm houses years ago and offer a traditional, old fashioned look for your kitchen.  Apron sinks can either be undermount or drop-in.

Vessel Sinks:

Vessel sinks offer a new, contemporary look to your countertops.  Made if a variety of materials, these bowls can sit directly on  countertop, or be recessed several inches into the top.  Though not practical for kitchen applications, they are becoming quite popular in powder rooms.

Sink Types for Solid Surface Countertops:

All of the above sink types are available to be used with solid surface material, as well as;

Integrated Sinks:

At first glance they may look like undermount sinks, but integral sinks are actually “part” of the countertop.  Since they are made of the same material as the countertop itself, they can be bonded together to form a complete seal, with no gap or space in between.

Edge Detail...

Countertops are installed with a standard overhang of 1inch past cabinetry.  Edges listed as “standard” are those that we provide at no additional charge.  Prices for optional edges increase as the group number increases.

Dave’s is able to create your tops partly in one edge profile, and partly in another.  For example, it has become a popular option to have the outside perimeter of the kitchen in a standard pencil edge, and upgrade the kitchen island in an ogee edge.
